Mendo Bistro Wins 2002 Crabcake Competition
Fort Bragg, CA
February, 26, 2002

Mendo Bistro took top honors in the Mendocino Crab & Wine Days 2002 Crabcake Cook-off. Their signature Dungeness Crabcakes with Cabbage Salad and Tarragon Aioli was a hit with the judges, among them Sunset Magazine's Food Editor Sara Schneider, Michele Anna Jordan, and Wine Country Living's Jamie Purviance.

"It was truly an honor to be chosen from a field that included so many great chefs and crab enthusiasts," says chef/owner Nicholas Petti. When asked about the secret to the winning recipe, chef Petti replied, "There's no secret. Just use lots of crab and little else." The recipe, which can be found on-line at www.mendobistro.com, is not only delicious, but simple for the home cook to prepare.

In keeping with Mendo Bistro's philosophy of using local ingredients at their peak the award winning crabcakes will be featured at Mendo Bistro until crab season closes. "The beauty of working on the North Coast is there is such an abundance of wonderful foods, many of which are wild. A chef could never get bored here. There are just too many delicious things to work with in your backyard."
